Our SolidWorks 2018 Launch events have now been concluded and what a success it has been. A big thank you to everyone who attended and enjoyed their time with us at these events and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

We would also like to thank our leading sponsors Dell and Intel, and also our other exhibitors for joining us and making these events a success. We believe that these events are a great opportunity to meet and discuss topics and design with other SolidWorks users. The events are not just about the latest advancements in design but also an opportunity to meet like-minded people and network with other companies. The SolidWorks user community is a vital part to SolidWorks continued success, over 90% of enhancements made are user led.

SolidWorks 2018 Enhancements

Lots of different enhancements are available to use within SolidWorks 2018 and people who attended our upgrade events have first-hand experience on how these features can work. Some of these new features include:

  • Mirror 3D Sketch Entities
  • Free Hand Sketching on touch devices
  • Reference Planes
  • 12 Mouse Gestures
  • PDM and Revision Tables

And many more. Our attendees got a first look at how some of these features work however if you couldn’t make it to our events keep your eye out for hints and tips blog posts and videos on ‘What’s new 2018’ for examples of the new features used.

SolidWorks and VR

During the showcase of SolidWorks 2018 we also illustrated how to show off your designs in VR (Virtual Reality). This was done with some audience participation and Google Cardboard. Very quickly we were able to show designs rendered in SolidWorks Visualize in VR.

Model Mania

Model Mania was also a huge success resulting in lots of prize winners, one of which being Tom Smith from Pipsqueak Designs! He won London’s model mania competition with a top time of 5 minutes and 30 seconds! Full list below;

Winners won a collection of 3DConnexion Products.

Dell & Intel Competition Winners

Finally, we are pleased to announce that the winner of the Dell 5520 Mobile Workstation was Mr Rob Shepherd from Dunphy Combustion! Cadtek regional account manager, Dave Gosling was on-hand to delivery the prize to Rob.

That’s all for this year’s upgrade events until next year, but until then keep up to date by following our Twitter @Cadtek for blog post updates, webinar news and general CAD design!
