Reacton was a business incorporated in 1996, primarily to deal with pneumatic automatic fire suppression systems. It’s undergone a change in ownership and we are now looking to become the world leader in automatic suppression systems. We are a business driven by quality and driven by the reliability of our products. Unless we have a package that enables us to take a product, take that product into a production environment, and create working procedures and processes quickly and efficiently, we will suffer some serious time delays in the production side of the business.
SOLIDWORKS for me is a package that enables the entire areas of the business. To streamline from product inception all the way through to product support and marketing. It’s a total solution for our business.
We need to precisely calculate some of the ratios of our products need to have for internal parts. SOLIDWORKS can accurately report those measurements and can create the product that from design it actually operates correctly. The major problems we are facing in our design phase is to be able to correctly and accurately hit our tolerances and interferences within the design from our dynamic parts. This is a tiny precision you are asking, so SOLIDWORKS isn’t just helping us to design that. It is helping us to visualise the movement and simulate some of the strengths.
Composer and Visualise are really key produces than enable the non-design side of the business. The marketing, the sales side of the business to support our customers. I think that’s a really good point to reiterate is the supporting of our customers. So if they have a project, it could be a crane at a dock, it could be a wind turbine, it could be a number of different projects. In order for them to win a contract, win a tender they need to be in the best position to explain to the end user what it is that is a competitive advantage of our product.
It’s modelled. It’s tested for its interference fit with all the other sub-assemblies it’s going to mate with. But also it’s rendered. It’s used in our marketing material and again it enables us to give our customers 3D, high quality pictures of what we are selling so they know what they are buying even before they have touched and felt the product
SOLIDWORKS, specifically the design side of it, if we need to put a percentage on it, it has probably accelerated our time to market by 80%. It enables us to budget elsewhere in the business. To develop those areas faster because we don’t need the resources you would need for conventional CAD software.
From the moment we discussed and opened up communication with Cadtek, it was very clear that Cadtek were the ones for us to support us. In this early stage especially when we are dealing with SOLIDWORKS at its initial stage with staff training, knowledge for me in product training is a huge thing. SOLIDWORKS has such an enormous amount of capability. And for any business buying this software, training again for me, is a massive priority.
SOLIDWORKS for me is great, and it’s great from a management point of view as well because when we are sat in a technical meeting and discuss parts that we find that are causing us issues, parts that need improvement and parts of the product that work well. But we can do it in a visual means. We’re not looking at a 2D drawing that you cannot visualise, we are looking at how these components fit. Not only with the other components we may mate with this products, but also how they fit in the environments that they are going to be working in.
