Approached by a client requesting a design with a difference, SOLIDWORKS users Alitex were only too happy to oblige.
Standing at 19 metres long and split into three separate zones, the substantial structure was created by Hampshire-based Alitex who specialise in bespoke greenhouses and conservatories.
Using SOLIDWORKS, they were able to construct the greenhouse exactly to the specifications of Head Gardener Dominic Palmer, who sought a prominent feature for his employer’s newly appointed walled garden.
“Our brief was to produce a unique greenhouse which would be the focal point within the grounds of a large private estate,” explained Alitex designer Dave Trevena.
“Once we had created the aluminium structure, we were able to test the design for geometry and access any component clashes with SOLIDWORKS” Interference Check tool. We could then send 3D models to our client for their approval using 3D VIA and eDrawings.
“SOLIDWORKS was a brilliant tool to use for this project. Moving from 2D to 3D has hugely improved our design capabilities, making it quicker and easier to create greenhouses and conservatories to our customers’ requirements.
“It has got to the point where I can’t imagine designing without it!”
Such is Head Gardener Dom’s appreciation, his wife jokes that he is now more attentive to the greenhouse than to her!
